FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Rock Camp for Girls*?
RC4G is a week-long day camp where campers learn the basics of playing an instrument and performing in a rock ‘n roll band. Camp includes music lessons and band practice, a variety of workshops and a final showcase called the Big Gig.

Who can go?
RC4G is open to youth between the ages of 10 and 18 (see session information below). No musical experience is necessary and you don’t have to bring your own instrument (although you can if you wish). RC4G welcomes girls, young women, non-binary and trans individuals as campers and leaders.

Is it better if I already play a musical instrument?
Not necessarily. The whole point of camp is to give campers the opportunity to try playing a rock ‘n roll instrument and to learn about playing as part of a band. We’ve had campers who’ve never played a musical instrument and campers who have taken music lessons for years. We all work together very well!

When is the camp?
In 2017, we are offering just one session of RC4G: August 14-18, for campers aged 10 to 18.

What are the hours?
RC4G begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:30 pm each day. Campers can be dropped off as early as 8:30 am and should be picked up no later than 5:00 pm. On the last day of camp we hold our ‘Big Gig’ where the campers get to show off what they’ve learned. The Big Gig usually begins at 4:00 pm.

Who runs the camp?
RC4G is organized and led by a group of musicians and performers from Peterborough and area. We also have a number of talented volunteers who help with all aspects of the camp. RC4G relies on the interest and generosity of many individuals, businesses and organizations to make the camp a success.

How much does it cost?
The full registration fee is $250. If you are not able to afford this amount, talk to us. We can provide some financial assistance – you can apply online using our Financial Assistance Request Form. Also, the City of Peterborough’s Recreation Division has an activity subsidy for qualified individuals that can be used for RC4G registration. Call 705-742-7777 ext. 1827. Other subsidies may be available.

Where is RC4G held?
RC4G is held at Sadleir House, located at 751 George St. N. (just north of Parkhill Road) in Peterborough, Ontario. The Sadleir House facility has a large performance space fully equipped with PA gear as well as a variety of meeting rooms for small group sessions. Sadleir House also has a fenced lawn area for outdoor activities.
